2026 Roadmap

I don't normally care for New Year's resolutions. Typically they're well-intentioned, but futile attempts to "better" ourselves over the coming year. They might last for a month or two before we fall back into our old ways.

Perhaps part of the reason for this is that we're not overly serious about these resolutions, and only make them as doing so has become some sort of modern tradition. Making serious resolutions to change requires planning and discipline - something I know I'm dreadful at, on a personal level.

However, I've been disappointed with how I've ended the year with OGC. I had ideas, goals, and ambitions - none of which were realised. Multiple factors contributed to this - work, illness and an especially torrid holiday ruining my energy and motivation to finish the year strong. As result, the blog has ended the year on a whimper, with only one article for the whole of December.

So, next year, I resolve to change this. Having taken some time over the Christmas period to reflect on the year (over which I took another holiday to spend time with interstate family,) I remembered that the best periods of growth for the blog and OGC as a brand were when I was being consistent with my output of content. Over the last two months, I haven't been consistent, and so activity on the blog and over on YouTube has slowed to almost static.

With that in mind, and also considering my aversion to planning and organisation, I've decided to develop a plan for the year ahead. I plan for 2026 to be a bigger and better year for OGC - to use the old cliche.

As part of this plan, I have two main goals for the blog / overall OGC brand for 2026:

  1. Consistent, once-per-week blog articles.
  2. Expand the OGC YouTube channel with a video Tier List.
Once-per-week articles I'll aim to release every Friday. I'm going to actually try and be organised and put together a personal schedule for the year. Deadlines are always helpful for me to scare off the dreaded procrastination. I'll know exactly what the year ahead will look like for OGC, though things will always be subject to change.

The Video Tier List is something that was on my mind to do all of 2025, but just never got around to doing it. I plan to fix that in 2026. Yes, you'll have to put up with my strange Australian accent through the whole thing, but some strange people probably like the Aussie tones, I'm sure. The Video Tier List is just the first step in a larger plan of total YouTube domination... haha, not really, but it's fun to think that way. I plan to expand beyond even the Video Tier List, but those details haven't been sorted out yet. Lots of ideas, not a whole lot of clarity.

There is also a secondary goal for the year, but it's something that I'm unsure I'll be able to make work due to my current living situation. Ideally I'd like to start streaming once the games start getting lengthy enough. I don't exactly have the ideal setup for this at the moment, but I'll still be planning to do at least one test stream this year to see if it'll work.

These may not seem like overly massive, ambitious goals, but there is reason for that. Something else far more significant is taking place in my life this year, which is that I'm getting married. Naturally, this takes the prime position in my life, so while I am aiming to accomplish these blog goals, disruption, I think, will be inevitable.

I hope you regular readers forgive the stumble at the end of the year and will stick with me into the new year.

As a quick reminder also, if you'd like to give more support to the blog than just views, I have a Patreon. I recently dropped the prices on the tiers, as I felt that I jumped in a little too high to start with. Of course, there's no compulsion to become a Patron, it's there if you would like to support what I do.

I also have my Discord channel, The Chronology Club, if you'd like to get more involved in the community. It's small at the moment, but has plenty of scope to expand with polls, competitions and streaming. Becoming a Chronology Club Member over at Patreon also grants you access to the exclusive Archaeology Team lounge and voice chat.

And finally, I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas, happy new year, and stay tuned for the first article of 2026 on Friday!
